I resigned from school yesterday.
It is now official, my last day at work will be the final day of term in July.
I have decided that 2019 is the year when I no longer compromise in my professional life.
I no longer want to put my health at risk for a school whose systems don’t support teachers in classrooms.
I no longer accept being put under stupid amounts of pressure, to achieve targets handed down by privately educated politicians – who have never seen an inner city school.
And I no longer want to tacitly support a system which believes that an overwhelmingly academic curriculum benefits students’ long-term development.
Many of my students leave school thinking they can’t learn, precisely because of the system which is supposed to help them.
I feel like a weight has been lifted from me.
Whether that will be the case in September when either my business will have grown to replace my job – or I will be working on supply, remains to be seen!
But I have learned in life that sometimes you need to take the next step, so that the path in front of you can reveal itself.
I am a 46 year old father to a 4 year old daughter – and my life is too important to spend stressed out by a system which I don’t believe benefits students, or those that teach them.
Enough is enough.
I hope your first week back was a good one (..and was less eventful than mine!)
Enjoy your weekend,
